Courses Taught in the School Year:

Mathematics (6th Grade)

About Course:	This course challenges students to learn about finding area of shapes, volume of 3-Dimensional Figures, Ratios, Unit Rates, Percentages, Division of Fractions, Plotting Points, and Data Analysis of Statistical Concepts. Students will engage in a various of conceptual problem solving for all topics of the course and learn of different ways to resolve problems of these concepts.
Learning Targets:	Students will be able to: describe a ratio as a relationship comparing two different quantities. explain the concept of unit rate and use language in the context of a ratio. solve percent of quantity problems. solve word problems involving division of fractions by fractions. solve real world mathematical problems that involve finding area of triangles and other polygons. solve real world and mathematical problems that involve finding the volume of rectangular prisms. Explain the meaning of positive/negative numbers and absolute values. graph points in all four quadrants of a coordinate plane. divide multi-digit numbers and add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals. find GCF and LCM of two whole numbers. read, write, and evaluate numerical and algebraic expressions using order of operations. write an inequality to represent scenarios.

Science (6th Grade)

About Course:	This course educates students on a variety of scientific studies that range from engineering to human impacts on the environment. The focus of each of these concepts is to allow students to learn about engineering design processes, hereditary and genetics, biological sciences, physical sciences and chemical sciences.
Learning Targets:	Students will be able to: define problems that can be solved with scientific knowledge develop, and evaluate models to explain phenomena. use and evaluate models to explain phenomena . plan and carry out investigations to collect evidence to develop explanations and/or solutions analyze and interpret data, both qualitative and quantitative, from various sources. use mathematical and computational thinking in order to identify patterns in data sets and use mathematical concepts to support explanations and arguments. construct explanations supported by multiple sources of evidence consistent with scientific ideas, principles, and theories. design solutions supported by multiple sources of evidence consistent with scientific ideas, principles, and theories. engage in argumentation to construct convincing arguments that support and/or refute claims about the natural or created word with relevant and sufficient evidence obtain, evaluate and communicate info that critiques and evaluates the merit, accuracy, and validity of ideas and methods.

Marine Biology (6th Grade)

About Course:	In this course students will be taught different organism categorization about marine animal and plant groups. Students will engage in question and discussion about various aspects of the marine ecosystem and environment world, as well as learn different approaches to exploring marine life from dissections, labs, hands-on projects, and discussions.
Learning Targets:	Students will be able to: identify key organisms that are responsible for the primary production and function of marine life. compare and contrast key functions of different marine organism classified under a variety of phylums (categorical groups) analyze different human impacts on the different marine ecosystems that lead to different outcomes. participate in group discussions about key factors that drive marine ecosystems analyze the organism body systems and understand each component 's main function in that body system. dissect various species and analyze, compare, and contrast body functions and systems.
