ELA
This 6th-grade ELA course follows the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and is designed to strengthen students' reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. Through the study of literature, informational texts, and diverse media, students will develop comprehension strategies, vocabulary, and analytical skills.
- Reading: Exploring fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama while practicing close reading and text analysis.
- Writing: Developing narrative, informative, and argumentative writing with a focus on structure, clarity, and evidence-based reasoning.
- Speaking & Listening: Participating in discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects to enhance communication skills.
- Language & Grammar: Strengthening grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary to improve written and spoken expression.
History
This 6th-grade Ancient History course follows the California History-Social Science Standards and explores the early civilizations that shaped the world. Students will investigate the geography, culture, government, economy, and innovations of ancient societies through critical thinking, analysis of primary and secondary sources, and hands-on projects.
- Early Humans & Prehistory: The development of early human societies and the shift from hunter-gatherers to settled civilizations.
- Mesopotamia: The rise of the first cities, the invention of writing, and early laws.
- Ancient Egypt: The influence of the Nile River, pharaohs, and cultural achievements.
- Ancient India & China: The impact of geography, belief systems, and technological advancements.
- Ancient Greece & Rome: Democracy, philosophy, architecture, and the foundations of Western civilization.
College EDS (Elective)
Through curriculum integration students will work on various activities involving Computer Science. This elective is STEM based in order to prepare students for high school, college, and beyond. This course in particular will focus on basic programming and intro to coding. This will help students develop problem solving skills.
Creative Writing
Students will read, discuss, and practice creative writing exercises in order to stimulate their imagination and enhance their ability to express themselves. Students will engage in composing works across various creative writing genres such as poetry, short stories, essays and creative factual accounts.
