Ms. Dodge
I went to Long Beach Poly/PACE for high school and CSULB for college. In college, my major was Liberal Studies for Education which was a sampling of everything, so that a person would have broad knowledge for teaching all subjects. My concentration was Comparative Literature. Being in the University Scholars Program, and passing APs at PACE, along with taking a double load of units, allowed me to graduate in 2 years, and obtain a credential in another year with student teaching. In all, I have 5 credentials, Elementary, CLAD, English, Foundational Science, and Health. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy walking my dog, gardening, playing guitar, doing stained glass or needlework, hiking, and kayaking, and seeing friends and family. I used to travel more before I had dogs and a house, and have been to Italy, France, the UK, and all around the US.
In 7th grade science, we learn about chemistry, and try out many chemical reactions to see how atoms rearrange and make things fizz, change color, or change temperature. In ecosystems, we learn about how all the organisms in the world are interconnected, and how we need to help keep the Earth in balance. In Geology, we use rock samples to study the systems that form and shape our Earth.
In health, we learn about growing up, changing bodies, and staying safe and healthy.
In 3D Printing, we use TinkerCad to make a wide variety of projects. Some of the projects serve to help students learn how to use the modeling or slicing software and the printers. Other projects are engineering projects that must be solved. Some projects allow students to use their artistic creativity. Whatever students make, they’re allowed to take home and keep.
