Ms. Cortez
In our 8th-grade math class in, students typically study a range of mathematical concepts aligned with the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Key areas of focus include:
1. Algebra: Understanding and solving linear equations and inequalities, working with systems of equations, and analyzing and interpreting linear functions.
2. Geometry: Exploring transformations (reflections, rotations, translations, and dilations), understanding congruence and similarity, and applying the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems.
3. Functions: Recognizing and comparing different types of functions, particularly linear functions, and understanding their real-world applications.
4. Number Systems: Working with rational and irrational numbers, including approximating square roots and performing operations with exponents.
5. Statistics and Probability: Analyzing bivariate data, interpreting scatter plots, and understanding patterns of association between variables.
By the end of the year, students will develop problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and the ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations, preparing them for high school algebra and beyond.
I look forward to working with your child.
